
In Group 2 medical rooms, the power supply must remain available even in the event of the first insulation fault. For this reason, IEC 60364-7-710 requires the use of medical IT systems with continuous insulation monitoring.
With the ISOMETER® isoMED527 and the ISOSCAN® EDS551, Bender offers the new generation of insulation monitoring and insulation fault detection for medical IT systems. The devices monitor all safety-relevant parameters such as system leakage capacitance (see FAQ why this is important), provide early warning in the event of critical conditions and automatically locate insulation faults in less than 5 seconds.

The ISOMETER® isoMED527 and the ISOSCAN® EDS551 combine continuous insulation monitoring with automatic insulation fault localisation. This allows critical changes to be detected at an early stage and faults to be located quickly, and ensures safe operations.
The ISOMETER® isoMED527 continuously monitors the electrical condition of the medical IT system and notifies immediately if any change or error occurs.

The ISOSCAN® EDS551 complements insulation monitoring by automatically locating insulation faults and notifying within seconds.

In accordance with IEC 61557-8, alarm messages must be transmitted via a Remote Insulation Warning (RIW). The Bender Control Panel CP9xx-EDGE, the Remote Alarm Indicator CP305 (from software version 2.0 onwards) and the Condition Monitor EDGE500IP are available for this purpose.
The system leakage capacitance has a direct impact on the fault current when an insulation fault occurs. Increased system leakage capacitance may be caused by long cable runs, transformer windings, connected medical electrical equipment, or ageing, damaged or faulty switching power supplies connected to the medical IT system.
As ISOMETER® isoMED527 and ISOSCAN® EDS551 also monitor this important system parameter and issue an early warning if the system leakage capacitance becomes too high, corrective measures can be implemented before a critical operating condition develops. This helps to reduce fault currents in the event of a first insulation fault, improve electrical safety and ensure the reliable operation of medical IT systems.
The BSC protocol is an exclusive bus protocol for communication between Bender devices. The new protocol enables faster alerts in the event of an insulation fault, regardless of how many monitoring devices are integrated into the system.

The insulation fault location system automatically identifies the circuit in which an insulation fault has occurred. While insulation monitoring detects a deterioration of the insulation restistance, an insulation fault location system helps determine where the fault is located.
The ISOSCAN® EDS551 performs this task automatically and locate insulation faults in less than 5 seconds.
