Bender UK joins forces with Oxley and Siemens to take on 8 UVHS summer students

This summer, eight UVHS Sixth Form students will be joining three South Lakes businesses on a summer placement program.  Bender UK, Oxley Group and Siemens Subsea will be welcoming students to their businesses.  Each student will take on a specific live project and will be working towards a Gold CREST Award (students must complete a project that makes an original contribution to a STEM field of study).  All eight UVHS sixth form students are currently studying STEM related subjects with a view to either entering into a relevant career or continue studying these subjects further.

At Bender the students will be working on a project for insulation monitoring on electric vehicles.  Bender has identified the need for a demonstration unit which showcases the functionality of insulation monitoring technology to prospective vehicle customers. This project will consist of researching and creating a concept design.

At the end of the assignment, each student will deliver a technical report and a presentation outlining the work they undertook and their findings.  The technical report and presentation will form the foundation for their Gold CREST Award application.  They will also be encouraged to enter the Regional Big Bang competition and if successful move onto the National Big Bang.

The students are being supported by The Ogden Trust’s Coastal Energy Internships that provides bursaries to sixth form students.  This year, the National Big Bang will take place in March 2020.
