VDE mark facilitates certification of AC charging stations according to IEC 62955

The latest generation of Bender CC613 charge controllers were developed for use in AC charging stations (Mode 3) in accordance with IEC 61851-1 and IEC 62955. Now the German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies e. V. (VDE) has confirmed this conformity with the standards by issuing the world's first certificate for a charge controller, thus paving the way for simplified certification of mode 3 EV charging stations.

The certification covers the entire product family of the CC613, starting with the entry-level model "Home Basic" for simple home charging, through the smart variant "Home Energy Management" for connection to energy management systems, e.g. via EEBUS for PV-based charging at home, up to "Fully-Connected" variants with OCPP and 4G modem, enabling billing in compliance with German calibration laws.

In addition to core features of the CC613 such as integrated dynamic load management, energy management (e.g. via EEBUS) and automatic authentication via Plug&Charge in accordance with ISO 15118, the integrated and patented 6mA DC residual current detection in accordance with IEC 62955 (no RCD type-B required) in particular represents the central unique selling point. The power circuit was certified from VDE together with a switching device from Eaton Industries GmbH and enables standard-compliant charging according to IEC 62955 up to 22 kW.

Dennis Haub (Standardization Manager eMobility Bender GmbH  Co KG) explains: "We have managed to qualify a solution according to IEC 62955 in time for the expiry of the normative transition period and are accordingly proud to be able to offer our customers a fully standard compliant alternative to the expensive use of an RCD Type B with our RDC-MD and an RCD Type A, thus reducing the installation costs of the charging infrastructure considerably.”

Winfried Möll (CTO Bender GmbH & Co. KG) adds: “Customers who use the certified solution in their Mode 3 charging solution (EV charging station) can expect immense relief and savings in certification.
