16 girls aged 14-16 were guests at Bender this week and took part in the career orientation programme Girls4MINT. The week, which was held under the motto "Shape the Future", aims to inspire girls to pursue vocational training in mathematical, scientific and technical professions and was supported by the Hessian Ministry of Economics and the Federal Employment Agency. In the district of Gießen, Bender was the only company to offer Girls4MINT practical days.
During the four days, the participants learned how to use a soldering iron and programming, among other things. Their tasks also included building an insect hotel, changing a car tyre and changing the oil in a car. The students also gained an insight into solar technology, the green roofs and sustainable management of the green spaces at Bender. At the end, all participants were able to take home an electronic clock they had built themselves.
Training manager Holger Weitzel was enthusiastic about the participants: "I think it's great how committed the girls have been. They have shown a high level of skill, have largely carried out the tasks set for them independently and have needed very little support."
Bender Managing Director Monika Schuster was also pleased with the great commitment of the participants: "We are very happy that we were able to welcome the young women at Bender to introduce them to the world of MINT professions. We also wish the students all the best for the future and hope to see them again soon, possibly even at Bender as a training location, for an internship or for dual studies."
