Hethel Engineering Centre

Bender UK Technology Day – Hethel Engineering Centre, Norwich 7th March ’19

Bender is a global expert and market leader in electrical safety technology. Bender UK is hosting a practical workshop on electrical safety solutions including insulation and residual current monitoring. This will be held at Hethel Engineering Centre.

Bender solutions are proven in use worldwide protecting safety critical industries from loss of power, shutdown and electrical failure.

The team from Bender UK will be delivering practical and concise sessions, including technical know-how, hands-on demonstrations and industry specific product developments.

Who should attend:

The day is aimed at electrical specifiers, engineers, managers, consultants and designers from businesses involved in market sectors including; oil, gas, defence, manufacturing, emobility and energy.

It is suited to those who:

  • Want to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the available technologies
  • Install Bender equipment and would benefit from demonstrations and discussions
  • Are considering upgrading outdated plant and infrastructure
  • Who want to gain a better understanding of how to use, extract and develop data trends (remotely or through reporting mechanisms) to improve communication
  • Use shortcuts for set up and data-collection
  • Need assistance with problem solving, system design, product selection, installation commission and through-life support

9-10.30amOverview & Impact of Earthing on Power Systems Safety & Availability
This is a CPD accredited programme covering the availability of supply under earth fault condition and the measures which can be taken to monitor the condition of electrical infrastructure.
10.45-12amPractical Technology Demonstration
Hands on demonstration of Insulation Monitoring, Residual Current Monitoring & Earth Fault Location Technology.  Includes practical aspects such as finding faults, using portable equipment and some typical ‘how-to’ advice.
12-1pm Lunch Break (Provided for full day attendees only)
1– 2pmOverview of Oil, Gas & Subsea Technology
Discussion topics will cover solutions for topside, subsea ROV’s and Umbilical’s.
2.30 – 4pmSupport vessels – FPSO & work vessels
Discussion topics will cover support vessels and FPSO’s equipment suitable for portable fault identification.

Technology & Session Overview

Residual current monitoring

Residual current monitors are used to monitor earthed systems (TN and TT systems) for fault currents and residual currents. Residual current monitors (RCM) continually monitor and detect deteriorations of the insulation level and send messages to the user before shutdown threshold values of the RCD are reached. RCM technology is used across industry sectors to continuously monitor electrical infrastructure and negates the need to switch off for periodic inspection and testing.

Insulation monitoring & Insulation fault location

Insulation monitoring devices continuously monitor the insulation resistance of IT systems (unearthed systems) and issue alarm when the values fall below a pre-set threshold value. Insulation monitoring devices detect deteriorations of the insulation level at an early stage. Insulation fault locators are used in combination with insulation monitoring devices for localisation of insulation faults in unearthed power supplies (IT systems). They detect the test current signals generated by the insulation monitoring device using measuring current transformers and evaluate them correspondingly. Insulation fault locators allow locating the fault source within a short period of time and during ongoing operation.

Focus on Oil, Gas & Subsea Technology

Pioneers of the first Insulation Monitoring device, Bender will deliver a concise update on the latest technology for new build and retrofit offshore/subsea projects including the new Bender isoHR685 10 insulation monitor.

The range of solutions for umbilical’s, cables, connectors and distribution equipment will be showcased with overviews and practical demonstrations of the systems.
